Saalfelden Leogang: The perfect winter weekend getaway
With our skiing skills in progress and after some great skiing, among others at Hochkönig and Hintertux, we certainly didn’t say no to explore the hundreds of options for winter and ski enthusiasts around Saalfelden-Leogang, a partner region of Sporthaus Schuster (read the german version on their blog HERE) and part of the famous Skicircus Saalach-Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. From the pictures we expected a lot, but what we found was more than we could’ve imagined. 🙂
When we leave Munich on a sunny Thursday evening, we knew we are lucky: The weather forecast for the upcoming weekend is excellent and the place where we stay is even more. Arriving at Naturhotel Forsthofgut, we immediately fell in love with this place. Stylish, peaceful and in the perfect location for our skiing adventures, we explore the SPA, pool areas and the wild animal enclosure of this stunning property.
We think it can’t get any better, but it can… 😉
Skiing Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn <3
With 270 kilometers of slopes and 70 cable cars, the Skicircus is the perfect place for some serious piste fun. Many mountains are well connected and even if a lot of people visit this place, there is enough space and it never get’s really crowded.
We pick our rental equipment from Sport Mitterer at the valley station in Leogang and spend a perfect day above the treeline. With multiple huts, alps and restaurants it is even more enjoyable and we especially fall in love with the Panorama Alm. 🙂 It’s awesome view of the surrounding mountains and relaxing atmosphere gets us right away and we spent a little to much time in the sun. 🙂
Skiing goes really good and we are excited for the Skitour the next day!
Skitouring Schwarzleotal and something new… 😉
The second day in Saalfelden Leogang is a perfect day of skitouring and panoramique views! We explore the Schwarzleotal, a little hidden valley a mere five minute drive from Leogang, which is very quiet and more a well kept skimountaineering secret than a well-known area. But it is perfect for us!
As the avalanche risk is too high, we aren’t able to go all the way up the mountain, but nevertheless we have a beyond perfect day. The cloudless sky gives us greatviews of the surrounding mountain range “Steinernes Meer” and even if the snow is already a few days old, we still find some pristine slopes. 🙂
As this obviously still isn’t enough for the perfect winter weekend getaway, we still learn something new the next day: CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING. 🙂
“Langlauf” is something we both never did before and accordingly it goes quite chaotic. At the Nordic Centrum in Saalfelden, we join a beginner course. Here we learn how to ski in lines, how to get fast – and… how not to get fast. 😉
Honestly it is more exhausting than we expected it to be, mostyl due to the unfamiliar smooth movements. We fight our way through and exhausted but happy we are already back in our car on the way home- time flies…
This weekend was beyond doubt the perfect winter getaway and we are very thankful for this great opportunity! Our skiing skills improved again, we spent three nights in a more than lovely hotel and had the best mountain days – hopefully we’ll be back in summer! <3
